Job Description

We are seeking a highly meticulous and organized Medical Records Sorter to join our team in Georgetown, Washington D.C. This vital role is responsible for the precise and efficient sorting, filing, and organization of sensitive patient medical records. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, a strong commitment to accuracy, and the ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion. This is an office-based position requiring consistent on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort and file medical records, reports, and other patient documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure all records are correctly identified, categorized, and placed in the appropriate patient charts or digital systems.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations regarding patient information.
  • Perform quality checks on sorted records to identify and correct any discrepancies or errors.
  • Assist with retrieving and delivering patient records as requested by authorized personnel.
  • Scan physical documents into electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring clear and legible scans.
  • Organize and maintain the physical filing system, ensuring easy retrieval of documents.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth workflow and accurate record management.
  • Identify and flag incomplete or missing documentation to the appropriate department.
  • Participate in regular audits and inventory checks of medical records.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an administrative or data entry role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Associate's degree or relevant certification in health information technology.
