Job Description
Are you ready to embark on a rewarding career that keeps our community moving? RTD is seeking enthusiastic individuals with no prior experience to join our comprehensive Bus Driver in Training program. This is a unique opportunity to receive paid training to become a professional Transit Operator. We will equip you with all the necessary skills, knowledge, and certifications, including your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), to safely and efficiently operate transit buses. Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all phases of the paid bus operator training program, including classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel practice.
- Learn and adhere to all RTD safety protocols, traffic laws, and operational procedures.
- Develop proficiency in operating various transit bus models, including pre-trip inspections and minor maintenance checks.
- Master established bus routes, schedules, and fare collection systems.
- Provide excellent customer service to passengers, assisting with inquiries, directions, and ensuring a positive rider experience.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for passengers and operate the vehicle in all weather conditions.
- Accurately complete daily manifests, reports, and other necessary documentation.
Required Skills
- Must possess a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record for at least the past three years.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements during the training period.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with passengers and colleagues.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to operational guidelines.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol screening, and criminal background check.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer service-oriented role.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or willingness to learn about vehicle operation and minor troubleshooting.
