Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and driven Open Source Community Intern to join our team in Thousand Oaks. This role is an incredible opportunity for an aspiring technologist to immerse themselves in the world of open source, contribute directly to impactful projects on GitHub, and learn from industry experts. You will play a vital role in supporting and growing our open-source initiatives, engaging with developer communities, and helping to maintain the health and vibrancy of our public repositories. This internship offers hands-on experience in software development, community management, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute code, documentation, and tests to various open-source projects on GitHub.
  • Engage with the open-source community through forums, issue trackers, and pull request reviews.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting open-source events, hackathons, and webinars.
  • Help identify and address community needs, feedback, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Write and update technical documentation, tutorials, and examples for open-source projects.
  • Monitor community discussions and contribute to a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams to align open-source contributions with product roadmaps.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub workflows (pull requests, issues, branching).
  • Basic programming skills in at least one modern language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#, Java).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Understanding of open-source principles and community dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience contributing to open-source projects.
  • Experience with Markdown for documentation.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Enrollment in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree program.
  • Experience with community management tools or platforms.
