Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Thrift Store Sorter to join our team in Yonkers. This role is crucial to our mission, as you will be responsible for meticulously sorting, categorizing, and preparing donated items for sale in our retail stores. You’ll play a vital part in ensuring quality merchandise reaches our shelves, directly contributing to the funding of our life-changing programs. This position involves a variety of daily tasks, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment where your efforts have a direct impact on our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and unload incoming donations from customers and trucks.
  • Sort donated clothing, household goods, books, and other merchandise according to established quality standards and categories.
  • Identify items suitable for sale, recycling, or disposal.
  • Price items accurately using pricing guidelines and tags.
  • Organize and move sorted items to designated areas for storage or display.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sorting area.
  • Operate basic equipment like hand trucks or pallet jacks as needed (training provided).
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve daily production goals.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, bending, and reaching.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality items.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Basic communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail or warehouse environment.
  • Familiarity with various types of merchandise (clothing, collectibles, electronics).
