Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Subway / Metro Station Attendant to join our team in Allentown. In this vital role, you will be the welcoming face of SEPTA, providing essential assistance, information, and a safe environment for our passengers. Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service, assisting passengers with directions, fare information, and general inquiries.
- Monitor station platforms and concourses to ensure passenger safety and adherence to transit rules.
- Assist passengers with disabilities, including operating accessibility equipment and providing guidance.
- Operate ticket vending machines (TVMs) and fare gates, troubleshooting minor issues and assisting passengers with transactions.
- Respond to emergency situations according to established protocols, coordinating with operations control and emergency services.
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean and orderly station environment, including managing waste and reporting larger cleaning needs.
- Handle lost and found inquiries, documenting items and assisting passengers with retrieval.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, train operators, and other transit personnel to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a helpful and patient demeanor.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced or challenging situations.
- Basic computer literacy for operating station equipment and reporting.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 25 lbs regularly throughout a shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service, retail, or a public-facing role.
- Knowledge of transit systems and local geography.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
