Job Description

Join Sunshine State Expeditions as a Fossil Hunt Instructor, leading private tours to discover prehistoric treasures across Florida. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable individual passionate about paleontology, geology, and delivering exceptional outdoor educational experiences. You will guide small groups and individuals, teaching them responsible fossil hunting techniques, identifying finds, and sharing fascinating insights into Florida’s ancient past. Your primary goal will be to ensure a safe, engaging, and unforgettable adventure for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead private fossil hunting expeditions for individuals and small groups, ensuring a safe and educational experience.
  • Educate guests on local geology, paleontology, and responsible fossil collection practices.
  • Identify various fossil types found during expeditions and explain their significance.
  • Maintain and prepare all necessary equipment for each tour, including safety gear and digging tools.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, tailoring the experience to guest interests and skill levels.
  • Conduct pre-trip briefings and post-trip debriefings.
  • Adhere to all company safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Document notable finds and contribute to our internal knowledge base.

Required Skills

  • Proven knowledge of Florida's paleontology and geology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and educate diverse groups effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in outdoor settings.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to navigate rugged terrain and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Paleontology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in guiding outdoor adventures or educational tours.
  • Advanced wilderness first aid certification.
  • Multilingual capabilities.
