Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chemical Process Engineer (Chemist) with a strong plant focus to join our operations in Lexington, Kentucky. In this role, you will be instrumental in optimizing chemical processes, ensuring safe and efficient plant operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will leverage your expertise in chemistry and engineering principles to troubleshoot issues, implement new technologies, and enhance productivity while adhering to stringent safety and environmental standards. This position offers a challenging environment where your contributions directly impact production efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize chemical plant processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Design, develop, and implement new process technologies and equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and quality regulations.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and R&D teams to support plant operations and project execution.
  • Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including P&IDs, operating procedures, and technical reports.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focusing on cost reduction, energy efficiency, and waste minimization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or petrochemical plant environment.
  • Strong understanding of chemical process principles, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex process issues and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and process control.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Experience with polymer production or specialty chemical processes.
