Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Bilingual Translators to join our remote team, specializing in government translation services. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to vital public sector initiatives from the comfort of your own home. As a key member of our linguistic team, you will be responsible for translating sensitive and complex documents for various government departments and agencies, ensuring accuracy, cultural nuance, and strict adherence to deadlines and confidentiality protocols. This role demands exceptional linguistic precision, a deep understanding of government terminology, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This position is 100% remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate a wide range of government documents (e.g., legal, technical, administrative, public policy) accurately and efficiently from English to Spanish and vice-versa.
- Ensure translations maintain the original meaning, tone, and context, while adhering to specific government style guides and terminology.
- Conduct thorough research and use appropriate reference materials to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural relevance.
- Manage multiple translation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Perform quality assurance checks on personal translations and occasionally on those of peers.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data security protocols for all sensitive government information.
- Utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, Translation Memory (TM), and Terminology Management systems effectively.
- Communicate proactively with project managers regarding project status, challenges, and completion.
Required Skills
- Exceptional bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is required.
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in professional translation, preferably within a government or public sector context.
- Demonstrated understanding of government terminology, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with CAT tools (e.g., Trados Studio, memoQ) and translation management software.
- Excellent research skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote setting.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Certification from a recognized translation association (e.g., ATA certification).
- Experience translating for specific U.S. government agencies (e.g., State Department, DoD, local NYC agencies).
- Familiarity with various subject matters pertinent to government operations (e.g., legal, healthcare, immigration, defense).
- Additional language proficiencies.
