Job Description

Moment Factory is seeking a passionate and talented Film Scoring & Music Composition Intern to join our dynamic audio team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the creation and implementation of original music for our diverse multimedia projects, including immersive installations, live shows, and digital experiences. The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced sound designers and composers, contributing to the sonic identity of our groundbreaking projects. This is an excellent chance for aspiring composers to develop their skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment and see their music brought to life on a grand scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior composers and sound designers in developing original musical scores and compositions for various projects.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions and creative discussions regarding project sound and music direction.
  • Support the production process by organizing sound libraries, managing assets, and preparing files for integration.
  • Learn and apply techniques for sound design, mixing, and mastering within a professional studio environment.
  • Conduct research on musical styles, instruments, and sonic trends relevant to project themes.
  • Participate in feedback sessions and revise compositions based on creative direction and technical requirements.
  • Document workflows and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to the overall creative process.

Required Skills

  • Strong foundational knowledge of music theory, harmony, and orchestration.
  • Proficiency in at least one major Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, Cubase, or Pro Tools.
  • Basic understanding of sound design principles and audio post-production.
  • Demonstrated ability to compose original music across various genres and styles.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced creative environment.
  • A portfolio or reel showcasing original music compositions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a music composition, film scoring, sound design, or related program.
  • Familiarity with interactive audio systems or game audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD).
  • Experience with synthesis, sampling, and virtual instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Montreal's vibrant music and arts scene.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
