Job Description
Are you an aspiring engineer with a passion for mechanical design and a desire to contribute to the energy sector? Halliburton is seeking a Junior Drilling Engineer with a Mechanical Design focus to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our drilling operations, particularly those centered in Houston, by contributing to the design, analysis, and optimization of drilling equipment and systems. This is an exceptional opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience with a global leader in oilfield services. You will work alongside experienced engineers, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, and contributing to innovative solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental performance in drilling operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the mechanical design and analysis of drilling tools, components, and systems using CAD software.
- Perform stress analysis, fatigue analysis, and other engineering calculations to ensure design integrity and performance.
- Support the development and optimization of drilling programs and procedures, with a focus on mechanical aspects.
- Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and contribute to design improvements.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with other drilling technologies.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations detailing design specifications and test results.
- Stay abreast of industry standards, new technologies, and best practices in drilling engineering and mechanical design.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, material science, and fluid mechanics.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and basic finite element analysis (FEA).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or co-op experience in the oil & gas industry or heavy machinery design.
- Familiarity with API standards relevant to drilling equipment.
- Experience with simulation software for mechanical systems.
- Basic knowledge of drilling operations and equipment.
