Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and passionate Sommelier / Wine Director to elevate the dining experience at one of our premier upscale establishments located in Downtown Mansfield, OH. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management of our wine program, from curation and procurement to service and staff education. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of wines, spirits, and beers, coupled with strong leadership abilities and a commitment to exceptional guest service. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, curate, and maintain an innovative and diverse wine list that complements the menu and appeals to discerning guests.
- Manage all aspects of wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, storage, and rotation, ensuring optimal cellar conditions.
- Train and mentor service staff on wine knowledge, pairing techniques, and proper service protocols to enhance the guest experience.
- Provide expert recommendations to guests, guiding them through our extensive selection and assisting with pairings.
- Conduct regular tastings and educational sessions for the team to foster continuous learning and passion for wine.
- Oversee wine budget, cost control, and sales targets to maximize profitability while maintaining quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with wine suppliers and distributors.
- Ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations pertaining to alcohol service.
- Regularly review industry trends and competitor offerings to keep our wine program fresh and competitive.
Required Skills
- Certified Sommelier (CMS Level II) or WSET Level 3 certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sommelier or Wine Steward in a high-volume, fine dining establishment.
- Exceptional knowledge of international wines, viticulture, and wine regions.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a natural flair for hospitality and guest engagement.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for inventory and cellar management.
- Proficiency with POS systems and inventory management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Sommelier (CMS Level III) or WSET Diploma certification.
- Experience in Michelin-starred or equivalent luxury dining environments.
- Multilingual abilities, particularly French, Italian, or Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to drive wine sales and meet financial targets.
- A bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or a related field.
