Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Endoscopy Nurse to join our specialized gastroenterology team in Evanston, IL. This role is open to international candidates who meet the necessary qualifications and are eager to contribute to a world-class healthcare environment. As an Endoscopy Nurse, you will play a critical role in assisting physicians during endoscopic procedures, providing pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure care to ensure optimal patient outcomes. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic setting, utilizing advanced equipment and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient experiences. Your expertise will be vital in supporting patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, ensuring their safety, comfort, and understanding throughout their journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures, including obtaining medical history, vital signs, and ensuring informed consent.
- Assist physicians during various endoscopic procedures (e.g., EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, bronchoscopy), ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Monitor patient vital signs, sedation levels, and overall condition during procedures, responding promptly to any changes.
- Administer medications as directed by the physician, including sedatives and analgesics.
- Operate and maintain endoscopic equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and functionality.
- Provide comprehensive post-procedure care instructions and education to patients and their families.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate effectively with gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to all infection control protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance professional practice.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a registered nurse, preferably in endoscopy, PACU, critical care, or emergency nursing.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Proficiency in administering moderate sedation and monitoring sedated patients.
- Strong knowledge of gastrointestinal anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Certification in Gastroenterology Nursing (e.g., CGRN).
- Experience with advanced endoscopic procedures such as ERCP or EUS.
- Fluency in multiple languages.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
