Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental Compliance Monitor with specialized expertise in paleontological resources (Paleo) for our critical infrastructure projects across the Florida region. This role involves ensuring strict adherence to environmental regulations and permits, with a particular focus on identifying, protecting, and mitigating impacts to significant paleontological discoveries during excavation and construction activities. The successful candidate will play a vital role in our project teams, providing on-site monitoring, conducting pre-construction surveys, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and regulatory agencies to uphold AECOM’s commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural resource preservation. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site monitoring of construction activities to ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, and project-specific Paleontological Resource Management Plans (PRMP).
- Identify, document, and report any potential or actual non-compliance issues related to environmental or paleontological resources.
- Perform pre-construction surveys and assessments for paleontological potential within project areas.
- Implement and oversee paleontological recovery procedures and data collection in the event of discoveries, coordinating with qualified paleontologists as necessary.
- Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly compliance reports, including photographic documentation and field notes.
- Liaise effectively with project teams, contractors, clients, and regulatory agency representatives (e.g., Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, local environmental agencies) regarding environmental and paleontological compliance.
- Provide recommendations for corrective actions and adaptive management strategies to address environmental and paleontological concerns.
- Assist in the development and review of environmental compliance plans and specifications.
- Conduct environmental awareness training for on-site personnel regarding paleontological resources and general environmental protection.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental monitoring or compliance, preferably in an infrastructure or construction setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of federal, state (Florida), and local environmental regulations, particularly those related to cultural and paleontological resources.
- Proven ability to identify and interpret environmental and paleontological indicators in the field.
- Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in using field equipment and data collection tools (e.g., GPS, digital photography).
- Ability to work independently in challenging field conditions, including varying weather and terrain.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites within the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Archaeology, Geology, Paleontology, or a related field.
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Construction Safety certification.
- Experience with GIS software for mapping and data analysis.
- Prior experience working on FDOT or other large-scale public infrastructure projects.
- Membership in relevant professional organizations.
