Job Description
XPO Logistics is seeking experienced and dedicated Independent Drayage Drivers to partner with us in the thriving port and rail logistics sector. As an independent contractor, you will leverage your own truck and expertise to provide critical transportation services, moving containers efficiently between ports, rail yards, and customer locations. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport intermodal containers to and from ports, rail ramps, and customer facilities.
- Manage and complete all necessary paperwork and electronic logs accurately and on time.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with dispatch, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure timely delivery and pickup of freight, managing schedules effectively.
- Operate in compliance with TWIC card requirements for port access.
- Handle HazMat freight responsibly when applicable and certified.
Required Skills
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A).
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience.
- Active TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or willingness to obtain one.
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and satisfactory safety history.
- Proficiency with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate independently and manage time effectively.
- Own and operate a reliable tractor (truck) that meets XPO Logistics' specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific local port and rail operations in Florida.
- Prior drayage or intermodal experience.
- Experience with various types of chassis and container configurations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Business acumen for managing an independent contractor operation.
