Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Tech with a strong focus on hospital systems to join our Pharmacy team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of all automated dispensing systems within our medical center. This includes ensuring the accurate and efficient operation of medication dispensing technology, managing inventory within the machines, and providing technical support to nursing and pharmacy staff. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to patient safety and operational excellence in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and calibration of automated dispensing machines (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with ADMs, including hardware, software, and connectivity problems.
- Load and unload medications into ADMs, ensuring accurate inventory management and proper placement.
- Conduct regular inventory audits of ADMs to ensure stock levels are maintained and discrepancies are resolved.
- Provide training and support to nurses, pharmacists, and other clinical staff on the proper use of ADMs.
- Collaborate with IT, Pharmacy, and Nursing departments to implement system updates, new features, and resolve interdisciplinary issues.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory changes.
- Ensure all ADM operations comply with hospital policies, state, and federal regulations, including those related to controlled substances.
- Assist in the setup and configuration of new ADMs and the decommissioning of old units.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency within the ADM system workflow.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell) in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management and record-keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse hospital staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Basic understanding of network connectivity and computer hardware.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a related technical field (e.g., Biomedical Technology, IT Support).
- Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT).
- Experience with hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic health records (EHR).
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to medication dispensing and controlled substances.
