Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and responsible Terminal Loading Master to oversee all aspects of product loading and unloading operations at our Sacramento terminal. This pivotal role requires an individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of logistics, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. The Terminal Loading Master will ensure efficient, safe, and accurate movement of refined products, managing a team of operators and coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all product loading and unloading activities for trucks, railcars, and/or barges at the terminal.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies, industry regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA), and environmental standards.
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of terminal operators, promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.
- Monitor inventory levels, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure accurate record-keeping of product movements.
- Coordinate with logistics, scheduling, and customer service teams to optimize loading schedules and minimize demurrage.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency response drills.
- Maintain terminal equipment, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any maintenance needs.
- Implement and enforce security protocols to safeguard terminal assets and products.
- Manage contractor activities within the terminal, ensuring compliance with Valero standards.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports, including safety performance and throughput.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in terminal operations, bulk liquid handling, or a related logistics field.
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience in an industrial or logistics setting.
- Thorough knowledge of safety protocols (e.g., hazmat, confined space, lockout/tagout) and environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of product inventory management and reconciliation practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively managing a team and interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and terminal management software systems.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy equipment if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in hazmat operations, fire prevention, or advanced safety training.
- Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Familiarity with railcar and/or marine vessel loading/unloading procedures.
