Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and organised Hospital Storeman & Porter with a strong focus on inventory management for our busy warehouse operations. This crucial role ensures the efficient flow of supplies and equipment throughout the hospital, directly impacting patient care and operational effectiveness. You will be responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing goods, maintaining accurate inventory records, and providing essential portering services. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and a proactive approach are key to success in this fast-paced environment. This is an on-site role critical to our daily hospital functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving, inspecting, and logging incoming deliveries of medical supplies, equipment, and general goods.
- Accurately storing items in designated warehouse locations, ensuring proper rotation and organisation.
- Picking and packing orders for various hospital departments based on requisitions.
- Maintaining precise inventory records using a computerised stock control system.
- Conducting regular stock checks and assisting with audits to minimise discrepancies.
- Transporting goods, equipment, and occasionally patients between hospital departments safely and efficiently.
- Ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and security of the warehouse and storage areas.
- Assisting with the safe disposal of waste and management of recycling programs.
- Operating basic material handling equipment (e.g., pallet trucks) as required.
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations and hospital policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a warehouse or storeman role, ideally within a healthcare setting.
- Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in inventory management principles and basic stock control systems.
- Basic IT literacy for data entry and record keeping.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and moving goods safely.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, reliable, and team-oriented work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NHS stock management systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP).
- Manual Handling training certification.
- First Aid certification.
- Full UK driving license.
- Previous experience as a hospital porter.
