Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Google Database Developer with a strong focus on SQL and Big Data technologies to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere within the UK. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data solutions on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Google BigQuery, SQL, data warehousing concepts, and a proven track record of delivering high-performance data pipelines and database solutions. You will collaborate closely with data architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust and efficient data models.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data models and database solutions primarily on Google Cloud Platform, with a strong emphasis on BigQuery.
- Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) processes.
- Develop and manage data pipelines using GCP tools such as Dataflow, Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow), and Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Implement best practices for data governance, data security, and data quality within the GCP ecosystem.
- Collaborate with data architects and business analysts to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions for performance optimization.
- Ensure data integrity, reliability, and availability of all data assets.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to coding standards.
- Stay current with emerging Big Data technologies and trends, particularly within the Google Cloud ecosystem.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in database development, with a strong focus on SQL and Big Data technologies.
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, including complex query writing, optimization, and stored procedures.
- Extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically BigQuery, Dataflow, and Cloud Storage.
- Proven experience with data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing concepts.
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data pipeline development.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.
- Experience with other GCP data services such as Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, or Dataproc.
- Proficiency in Python or Java for data scripting and automation.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices for data solutions.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
