Job Description
As a UPS HGV Instructor, you will play a critical role in upholding UPS’s commitment to safety and operational excellence. You will be responsible for training and developing our next generation of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers, ensuring they possess the skills, knowledge, and adherence to safety protocols required to navigate complex routes and handle diverse cargo. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive training programs for new and existing HGV drivers, covering vehicle operation, safety regulations, route planning, and defensive driving techniques.
- Evaluate driver performance through practical assessments and theoretical examinations, providing constructive feedback and remedial training as needed.
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with all company policies, local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
- Stay current with industry best practices, technological advancements in HGV operation, and changes in driving laws.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the driving team, leading by example and reinforcing safe operating procedures at all times.
- Assist in the development and refinement of training materials and curricula to meet evolving business needs.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (e.g., air brakes, combination vehicles).
- Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience operating Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV).
- Proven instructional or mentoring experience, preferably in a driving or logistics environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, safety standards, and vehicle mechanics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a certified HGV driving instructor or examiner.
- Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., logistics, transportation management).
- Experience with advanced vehicle safety systems and telematics.
- Familiarity with UPS operational procedures and systems.
