Job Description

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Paleontology is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Paleontology Career Starter. This unique full-time opportunity provides comprehensive, hands-on mentorship designed to equip you with foundational skills and practical experience in the field of paleontology. No prior professional experience is required; we are looking for curious minds eager to learn and contribute. You will work alongside experienced paleontologists, museum curators, and researchers on various projects, from fossil preparation and curation to fieldwork support and research assistance. This role is perfect for individuals looking to launch a career in paleontology with a strong support system and a clear path for development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior paleontologists and curatorial staff with fossil preparation, cleaning, and conservation.
- Participate in field expeditions, including excavation, geological surveying, and data collection, under direct supervision.
- Support the digitization and cataloging of fossil collections, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Aid in the maintenance and organization of laboratory and collection spaces.
- Learn and apply best practices in fossil handling, storage, and exhibit preparation.
- Conduct literature reviews and assist with research projects as directed.
- Contribute to educational outreach programs and museum tours as needed.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to all laboratory and field protocols.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for paleontology, geology, or related natural sciences.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
