Job Description

As a Fire Truck Driver (Trainee), you will embark on an intensive training program designed to prepare you for the critical responsibilities of a professional firefighter and fire apparatus operator. Under the guidance of experienced personnel, you will learn fire suppression techniques, emergency medical services, and the safe operation and maintenance of fire department vehicles. This on-site position requires a strong commitment to learning, physical fitness, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undergo comprehensive training in fire suppression, emergency medical services, and technical rescue.
  • Learn to safely operate and maintain various fire apparatus, including driving fire trucks under emergency conditions.
  • Participate actively in all required drills, simulations, and classroom instruction to enhance emergency response skills.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance, inspection, and cleaning of fire station facilities, apparatus, and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other public safety situations.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively as an integral part of a firefighting team during critical operations.
  • Maintain physical fitness and readiness to meet the demanding requirements of the job.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a specified timeframe (typically 6-12 months) of hire.
  • Excellent physical condition and the ability to pass a rigorous physical agility test (CPAT) and medical examination.
  • Strong commitment to public safety, community service, and ethical conduct.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, follow complex instructions, and adapt to challenging situations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EMT-B or Paramedic certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Previous volunteer fire service, military, or other public safety experience.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
