Job Description

The Canada Border Services Agency is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for our Trainee Customs Revenue Collector program. This entry-level position offers comprehensive training designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to become a vital part of Canada’s border security and revenue collection efforts. You will learn to apply customs regulations, process declarations, assess duties and taxes, and contribute to the economic integrity of our nation. This role is based at various port and border locations, playing a critical part in safeguarding Canadian interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Undergo structured training on customs procedures, regulations, and revenue collection policies.
- Assist in the examination of goods, cargo, and traveler declarations to ensure compliance with Canadian laws.
- Learn to accurately assess and collect duties, taxes, and other fees on imported goods.
- Shadow experienced officers in verifying documentation and identifying discrepancies.
- Participate in operational activities related to customs processing at ports of entry.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to data entry and administrative tasks.
- Develop a thorough understanding of relevant trade agreements and prohibited goods.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and agency policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Commitment to upholding Canadian laws and regulations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Criminology, Law, Business Administration).
- Previous experience in customer service or administrative roles.
- Knowledge of Canada's geography and diverse cultural landscape.
- Fluency in both English and French (official languages of Canada).
