Job Description

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can learn vital life-saving skills and contribute to public safety? The RNLI is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Beach Lifeguard Assistants. This is an incredible opportunity for those with little to no experience, as we provide comprehensive, paid training to equip you with all the necessary qualifications and skills. While the initial recruitment and training phase may be based in the West Midlands, this role is for deployment to our beautiful coastal beaches across the UK. You’ll work alongside experienced lifeguards, helping to keep beachgoers safe, respond to incidents, and educate the public on water safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified lifeguards in patrolling designated beach areas and monitoring water users.
  • Help maintain a safe beach environment by identifying potential hazards and advising the public.
  • Participate in rescue operations and provide immediate first aid when required, under supervision.
  • Engage with beach visitors, offering friendly advice on water safety and local conditions.
  • Support the setup, inspection, and maintenance of lifeguard equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness and participate in ongoing training exercises.
  • Adhere to all RNLI operational procedures and health and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Strong swimming ability (e.g., ability to swim 400m in less than 7 minutes 30 seconds).
  • Good level of physical fitness and stamina.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in challenging environments.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • A genuine commitment to public safety and the values of the RNLI.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a water-based activity or sport.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid (full training will be provided).
  • Familiarity with coastal environments and beach safety.
