Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and driven Open Source Community Intern to join our team in Sheffield. This unique internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to open source projects, primarily focusing on GitHub, and help foster a vibrant developer community. You will work alongside experienced engineers, learning best practices in open source contribution, community management, and software development lifecycle. This role is ideal for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in a real-world tech environment and make a tangible impact on projects used by developers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute code, documentation, and bug fixes to WANdisco's open source projects on GitHub.
- Engage with the open source community by responding to issues, pull requests, and discussions.
- Assist in the creation of tutorials, examples, and user guides to improve project usability.
- Monitor and report on community activity and project health metrics.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify opportunities for open source contributions.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning discussions.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows (pull requests, issues, branching).
- Basic understanding of at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C++).
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to open source.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience contributing to open source projects.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with technical writing or documentation.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
