Job Description
UPS is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Digital Archivist with a strong focus on historical data to join our team. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to safeguard and curate the extensive digital legacy of one of the world’s most recognized brands. You will be instrumental in preserving our company’s journey, from its founding to its present global footprint, ensuring that key historical documents, media, and data are meticulously organized, preserved, and made accessible for research, corporate memory, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in digital preservation methodologies, metadata standards, and the ability to work independently to manage a significant historical archive.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies for the long-term preservation and accessibility of UPS's digital historical assets.
- Catalog, organize, and describe digital historical records using appropriate metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD).
- Manage and maintain digital archival systems, including storage, retrieval, and access protocols.
- Conduct quality control on digitized materials and born-digital historical records to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Legal, Marketing, IT) to identify, acquire, and ingest historical digital content.
- Provide research assistance and access to historical data for internal teams and approved external researchers.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in digital preservation and archival science.
- Create and update documentation for archival policies, procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in digital archiving, records management, or library science.
- Proficiency with digital asset management (DAM) systems and archival software.
- Strong understanding of metadata standards and schemas (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, EAD).
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital preservation principles and practices.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field.
- Certification in Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) or similar professional credentials.
- Experience with historical research methodologies.
- Familiarity with intellectual property rights and copyright laws pertaining to digital content.
- Project management experience in archival or digital library initiatives.
