Job Description
Join Easterseals of Alabama as an Entry-Level Direct Support Professional (DSP) and make a real impact on people’s lives. You will provide essential support and companionship to individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve greater independence and participate more fully in their communities. No prior experience is required; we provide comprehensive training to ensure your success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct assistance with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication reminders.
- Support individuals in accessing community resources, participating in social activities, and pursuing personal interests.
- Assist with transportation to appointments, errands, and recreational outings.
- Promote independence, self-esteem, and decision-making skills for individuals.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging environment.
- Document observations, progress, and daily activities accurately and promptly.
- Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and team members.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or caregiving experience (personal or professional).
- CPR and First Aid certification (training provided if not certified).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities (not required, but a plus).
