Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Vocal Coach to join our team at the Columbia Basin Conservatory of Music. This is a part-time position perfect for an experienced professional dedicated to helping students develop their vocal abilities, performance techniques, and musicality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vocal performance and pedagogy, with the ability to teach various genres and cater to diverse student needs. You will be instrumental in guiding our students through personalized lessons, preparing them for performances, auditions, and overall vocal mastery in our professional studio environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group vocal instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Develop personalized lesson plans tailored to student goals and vocal needs.
  • Teach proper vocal techniques including breath control, pitch, tone, resonance, and articulation.
  • Guide students in song interpretation, stage presence, and performance skills.
  • Prepare students for recitals, auditions, competitions, and examinations.
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly with students and, for minors, their parents/guardians regarding progress and goals.
  • Stay current with industry trends, vocal pedagogy, and teaching methodologies.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and conservatory events as required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable expertise in vocal pedagogy and performance.
  • Proficiency in teaching various vocal styles (e.g., classical, contemporary, jazz, musical theater).
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels.
  • Solid understanding of music theory and ear training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Certification in a recognized vocal pedagogy method (e.g., Estill Voice Training, Somatic Voicework).
  • Active professional performance experience.
  • Experience with studio recording techniques or live sound.
  • Bilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish and English, relevant to the region).
