Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Haul Specialist to join our elite transportation team in Antioch, California. This critical role involves safely and efficiently transporting oversize and overweight loads across various distances, adhering strictly to all state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess an impeccable driving record, profound knowledge of heavy haul logistics, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy haul equipment and vehicles to transport oversize and overweight loads.
- Plan and execute safe and efficient routes, considering road conditions, permits, and regulatory requirements.
- Secure loads effectively using appropriate tie-downs, chains, and other securing devices to prevent shifting or damage.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any issues.
- Obtain and verify all necessary permits for oversize and overweight loads before transit.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, pilot cars, and other team members regarding load status and potential challenges.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, and delivery documentation.
- Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Perform minor roadside repairs as needed and report major mechanical issues promptly.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)
- Minimum of 4 years of heavy haul/oversize load transportation experience
- Proven experience with various heavy haul trailers (e.g., RGN, lowboy, flatbed, stretch trailers)
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to oversize and overweight loads
- Excellent spatial awareness and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Clean driving record with no major violations
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazmat and Tanker endorsements (preferred, but not required)
- Experience with specialized rigging and lifting techniques
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management software
- Certification in advanced safety driving techniques
