Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Correctional Facility Nurse in Pittsburgh, PA. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive healthcare services to an underserved population within a secure correctional environment. You will be responsible for applying your nursing expertise in a challenging yet deeply rewarding setting, contributing directly to the health and well-being of individuals while maintaining a safe and secure facility. This position demands strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical and mental health evaluations, upon intake and as needed.
- Administer medications accurately and safely, ensuring compliance with all medical protocols and documentation standards.
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, providing immediate care and coordinating further treatment as required.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional staff, to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records, documenting all patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes.
- Provide health education to patients on various topics, including chronic disease management, hygiene, and preventative care.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for both patients and staff by adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in correctional healthcare.
- Perform routine nursing duties such as wound care, vital sign monitoring, and diagnostic test assistance.
Required Skills
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Pennsylvania.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a secure and structured environment.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in correctional healthcare, emergency room, or psychiatric nursing.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and managing challenging patient behaviors.
- Certification in Correctional Health Care (CCHC).
