Job Description

Are you seeking a dynamic career with purpose? The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is actively recruiting for Trainee Immigration Enforcement Officers. This full-time position in Albuquerque, NM, offers comprehensive paid training to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to enforce immigration laws, detect and prevent the illegal entry of individuals, and ensure the security of our nation’s borders. No prior experience in law enforcement or immigration is necessary; we provide all the training you need to succeed. You will be part of a vital team dedicated to protecting national security and upholding the rule of law. This role involves critical decision-making, direct interaction with the public, and working in a challenging yet rewarding on-site environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in and successfully complete all phases of paid training, including classroom instruction and practical exercises.
  • Learn to identify and interdict individuals attempting to illegally enter the United States.
  • Conduct interviews and gather information from individuals encountered in enforcement operations.
  • Assist in the apprehension, detention, and removal of individuals found to be in violation of immigration laws.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment and vehicles.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation of enforcement actions.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and government entities.
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness and readiness for demanding situations.

Required Skills

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment, but no older than 40.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, medical examination, and physical fitness test.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Capacity for critical thinking and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Willingness to carry a firearm and use deadly force, if necessary, after receiving appropriate training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in roles requiring decision-making under pressure.
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish.
  • Experience demonstrating integrity and reliability.
