Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lab Supervisor with a strong emphasis on mentorship and training to join our team in Greeley, Colorado. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory, maintaining quality standards, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development among our technicians. The successful candidate will not only oversee daily lab activities but also play a critical role in coaching, training, and guiding junior staff, helping them to develop their technical skills and grow within their careers. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of laboratory technicians, ensuring adherence to established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Provide hands-on training and mentorship to new and junior lab staff, focusing on laboratory techniques, equipment operation, data interpretation, and quality control.
- Develop and implement training programs and materials to enhance team skills and knowledge.
- Monitor workflow, allocate resources, and schedule assignments to meet deadlines and operational goals.
- Oversee instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
- Ensure all laboratory operations comply with relevant regulatory requirements, company policies, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 17025, GMP/GLP).
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of technical issues, non-conformances, and customer complaints.
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities, including training records, equipment logs, and quality control data.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented work environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a laboratory setting, with significant time spent in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong technical proficiency in relevant laboratory methodologies (e.g., analytical chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, environmental testing).
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop junior staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of laboratory quality control and quality assurance principles.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex scientific instruments and methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with regulatory audits (e.g., FDA, EPA, USDA).
- Familiarity with specific industry standards relevant to environmental, food, or pharmaceutical testing.
