Job Description
Are you passionate about feline welfare and looking to start a rewarding career working with animals? The Benton-Franklin Humane Society is seeking a dedicated and reliable Cattery Assistant for part-time evening shifts at our Pasco location. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with no prior professional experience but a strong love for cats and a commitment to their well-being. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and nurturing environment for our feline residents, ensuring their comfort and health during their stay with us.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough daily cleaning and sanitization of cattery kennels, common areas, and feeding stations.
- Provide fresh food and water to all cats according to established feeding schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor the health and behavior of cats, promptly reporting any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes to supervisory staff.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosages and timely delivery.
- Socialize with cats through gentle handling, play, and enrichment activities to reduce stress and promote positive behavior.
- Assist with laundry duties, including washing and folding bedding and towels.
- Restock supplies such as food, litter, and cleaning agents.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, cleaning, and animal observations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and animal handling guidelines to ensure the well-being of both animals and staff.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for cats and all animals.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
- Reliability and punctuality for evening shifts.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 30 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and sanitary environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (volunteer or personal) with cat care or animal handling.
- Basic knowledge of feline behavior and common health issues.
