Key Responsibilities
- Operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) safely and efficiently, adhering to all DOT regulations and company policies.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any defects or issues.
- Transport freight between various locations, ensuring timely delivery and proper handling of goods.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery receipts, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and participate in ongoing safety training.
- Represent Old Dominion Freight Line professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Class A required.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Proven ability to operate CMVs safely (within policy guidelines for past record).
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull freight as required.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and ability to perform minor roadside repairs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a professional truck driver (even if limited or interrupted).
- Familiarity with local and regional routes in the Raleigh, NC area.
- Clean MVR within company policy parameters.
- Forklift certification or experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
