Job Description
Join HDR’s dynamic team in Greenville, SC, as a Highway & Traffic Engineer. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant transportation projects, ranging from highway design and intersection improvements to traffic impact studies and intelligent transportation systems. You will be instrumental in all phases of project delivery, from conceptual design through construction support. We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for creating safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation networks. CoS (Certificate of Sponsorship) is available for eligible candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform highway design tasks, including geometric design, roadway drainage, and pavement design.
- Conduct traffic engineering analyses, such as traffic impact studies, signal timing, and corridor optimization.
- Prepare engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Utilize engineering software for modeling and analysis (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Synchro, VISSIM).
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure projects adhere to local, state, and federal design standards and regulations.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to professional development initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- 3+ years of experience in highway design and/or traffic engineering.
- Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with AASHTO Green Book, MUTCD, and state DOT design manuals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Transportation Engineering.
- Experience with traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM).
- Prior experience in client-facing roles and project management.
- Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ITE, ASCE).
- Experience with GIS applications.
