Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Radiation Protection Advisor to join our safety and compliance team. This critical role ensures the safety of our personnel, the public, and the environment by developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive radiation protection programs. The Radiation Protection Advisor will provide expert guidance on all aspects of radiation safety, regulatory compliance, and emergency preparedness related to the generation and distribution of energy. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's radiation protection program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., NRC, EPA, OSHA).
  • Conduct radiation surveys, dose assessments, and contamination control activities.
  • Provide expert advice and training to personnel on radiation safety practices, procedures, and emergency response.
  • Oversee the calibration and maintenance of radiation detection instrumentation.
  • Investigate radiation-related incidents, recommend corrective actions, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audits, ensuring compliance and addressing any findings.
  • Manage radioactive material inventories and waste disposal in adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of safety culture and operational excellence.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in radiation protection, preferably in a nuclear power plant or industrial setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiation physics, dosimetry, and biological effects of radiation.
  • Proficiency with radiation detection instrumentation and associated software.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state radiation protection regulations (e.g., 10 CFR Parts 20, 50, 61, ANSI/HPS standards).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Health Physics.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (CHP).
  • Experience with emergency preparedness and response planning for radiological incidents.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring programs related to radiation.
  • Project management experience.
