Job Description
Are you passionate about animal welfare and ready for a physically demanding yet incredibly rewarding role? The RSPCA Bolton Animal Centre is seeking a dedicated Wildlife Rescue Center Laborer to join our compassionate team. This role involves significant heavy cleaning, maintenance, and general support to ensure our rescue animals live in hygienic and comfortable conditions. You will play a crucial part in the daily operations of our busy centre, directly impacting the well-being and recovery of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform extensive cleaning and disinfection of animal enclosures, kennels, aviaries, and communal areas daily, adhering to strict hygiene protocols.
- Handle and dispose of waste, including animal waste, soiled bedding, and general refuse, safely and efficiently.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, ensuring proper functionality and cleanliness.
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of food and water for various animal species according to strict dietary guidelines.
- Monitor animal enclosures for damage, wear, or necessary repairs and report issues promptly.
- Support the animal care team with general centre maintenance tasks, including grounds keeping, laundry, and inventory management.
- Observe animals for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns to senior animal care staff.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including manual handling procedures, when performing duties.
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules and stock levels as required.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with a keen eye for detail in cleanliness and hygiene.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and a willingness to work with various animal species.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a cleaning, labourer, or animal care role, particularly within a rescue or veterinary setting.
- Knowledge of animal welfare best practices and hygiene standards.
- Valid UK driving license.
