Job Description
Join Chevron as a Mechanical Operations Trainee with a focus on our downstream operations. This entry-level position is designed for individuals eager to learn the foundational aspects of mechanical operations within our refining and petrochemical facilities. You will gain hands-on experience and training in equipment maintenance, operational procedures, safety protocols, and troubleshooting under the guidance of experienced professionals. This role offers a clear career path in the energy sector, providing the knowledge and skills necessary to become a skilled mechanical technician or operator.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in comprehensive training programs covering mechanical systems, equipment operation, and safety standards specific to downstream facilities.
- Assist experienced technicians and operators in routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of machinery such as pumps, compressors, valves, and piping systems.
- Learn to identify mechanical issues, diagnose problems, and contribute to efficient troubleshooting efforts.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Document maintenance activities, equipment status, and operational logs accurately.
- Engage actively in team discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understand and apply lockout/tagout procedures and other critical safety protocols.
- Support the smooth and safe operation of assigned plant equipment.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in how mechanical systems work.
- Ability to comprehend and follow technical instructions and safety guidelines.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to a dynamic industrial environment.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and reporting.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, climbing, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment or completion of a technical or vocational program in mechanical technology, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
- Prior experience (even informal) with tools or mechanical repair.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety in previous work or academic experiences.
- Basic understanding of process flow diagrams (PFDs) or piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
