Job Description
WSP USA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic environmental team in Long Beach, CA. This pivotal role involves conducting comprehensive biological surveys, environmental impact assessments, and providing expert ecological guidance on a diverse range of projects, both domestically and potentially internationally. The successful candidate will contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, restoration efforts, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys for wildlife, habitat assessments, and vegetation mapping.
- Prepare detailed biological reports, environmental assessments, and permit applications.
- Analyze biological data using statistical software and GIS tools.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., ESA, CESA, CEQA, NEPA).
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in client meetings and present technical findings.
- Contribute to proposal development and project planning.
- Mentor junior staff and promote best practices in ecological consulting.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in wildlife biology or ecological consulting.
- Demonstrated experience with biological field survey techniques and data collection.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state wildlife protection laws and regulations (e.g., ESA, CEQA, NEPA).
- Proficiency in technical report writing and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for fieldwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant biological or ecological discipline.
- Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS Pro) for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Familiarity with California flora and fauna, and specific experience in the Southern California region.
- Experience with wetland delineation and restoration projects.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PWS, CESCL, or species-specific permits).
- Project management experience in environmental consulting.
- Bilingual proficiency is a plus, especially for international projects.
