Job Description

Are you a friendly, empathetic, and proactive individual with a passion for online communities? Discord is looking for a Virtual Community Welcomer to join our remote team. In this chat-based role, you will be the first point of contact for new members joining various Discord servers, ensuring they feel welcomed, informed, and integrated into our vibrant communities. You will guide them through initial steps, answer questions, and help foster a positive and engaging environment from day one. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact user experience and contribute to the growth and health of our global community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with new members in designated Discord servers via chat to offer warm welcomes and initial support.
  • Provide clear and concise information about server rules, channels, and community guidelines.
  • Answer common questions from new users regarding Discord features, server navigation, and community etiquette.
  • Identify and escalate complex issues or technical problems to appropriate support teams.
  • Monitor chat for signs of distress or user confusion and offer timely assistance or direction.
  • Collect feedback from new users to help improve onboarding processes and overall community experience.
  • Collaborate with community managers and moderators to ensure a consistent and positive welcoming experience.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of helpful FAQ resources for new community members.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written communication skills with a friendly and approachable tone.
  • Strong empathy and interpersonal skills, able to make others feel comfortable and valued.
  • Proficiency with Discord platform features and functionality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
  • Problem-solving aptitude with a focus on user satisfaction.
  • High level of patience and a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in online community management, customer service, or a similar user-facing role.
  • Familiarity with various online communities and subcultures.
  • Experience using ticketing systems or CRM software.
  • Knowledge of multiple languages is a plus.
