Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer with a strong focus on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and OSHA compliance to join our team in a hybrid work model, based out of Wesley Chapel, Florida. This critical role is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of OSHA standards, a proactive approach to risk management, and the ability to effectively communicate safety protocols across all levels of the organization. This position requires a blend of remote work flexibility with regular on-site presence at our facilities in the Wesley Chapel area to conduct inspections, training, and ensure hands-on safety management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive WHS programs and policies in alignment with UPS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of facilities, equipment, and operational procedures.
- Ensure strict compliance with all OSHA regulations, local safety standards, and company safety guidelines.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver engaging and effective safety training sessions to employees on various topics, including hazard communication, emergency preparedness, and proper equipment operation.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training activities, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to foster a strong safety culture and address safety concerns.
- Provide expert guidance and support on safety-related matters to all departments.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Evaluate new equipment and processes for potential safety hazards and implement control measures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in WHS and OSHA compliance management.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state safety regulations (e.g., OSHA 29 CFR).
- Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
- Experience in the logistics, transportation, or package delivery industry.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
