Job Description
Summa Health is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Laboratory Services team as a UPS Phlebotomist (Trainee) – Lab Support. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to start a career in healthcare, specifically in phlebotomy and lab operations. You will receive comprehensive training to develop the skills necessary for accurate blood collection and specimen processing, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and supporting overall lab efficiency. This role is crucial for maintaining the flow of critical diagnostic samples within our fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in an intensive training program to learn venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques.
- Safely and accurately collect blood samples from patients of all ages following established protocols.
- Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring integrity and accurate documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked phlebotomy area and lab support workspace.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, infection control policies, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Provide compassionate and professional patient interaction, explaining procedures clearly and addressing concerns.
- Assist with inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and reordering as needed.
- Support general laboratory operations, including specimen reception, data entry, and dispatch.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and laboratory staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory services.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong desire to learn and develop phlebotomy skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately.
- Basic computer proficiency.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service role.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or willingness to obtain.
