Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic UPS Chiropody Assistant with a specific focus on elderly care to join our compassionate team at the Grenada Geriatric Hospital. In this vital role, you will work under the supervision of a qualified Chiropodist or Podiatrist, providing essential foot care services to our elderly residents. Your primary goal will be to assist in maintaining and improving the foot health of our residents, which significantly contributes to their mobility, comfort, and overall quality of life. This position requires a gentle demeanor, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to caring for the elderly.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chiropodist/Podiatrist in providing routine foot care, including nail trimming, filing, and callus reduction.
- Prepare patients for treatment, ensuring their comfort and explaining procedures as directed.
- Sterilize and maintain chiropody instruments and equipment in accordance with strict hygiene protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
- Observe and report any changes in patients' foot conditions or concerns to the supervising Chiropodist/Podiatrist.
- Provide basic foot health advice and demonstrate proper foot care techniques to residents and their caregivers.
- Accurately document patient interactions, treatments, and observations.
- Assist residents with mobility and positioning during appointments.
- Handle and dispose of clinical waste safely and appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Chiropody Assistant or similar role, preferably in an elderly care setting.
- Strong understanding of infection control and sterilization procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate approach to elderly patients.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- High level of patience, empathy, and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility and stand for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of common foot conditions in the elderly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Chiropody Assisting or a related healthcare field.
- Experience working with individuals with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
