Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and proactive University Campus Porter to join our facilities team at our Newbury campus. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth daily operation of our academic buildings and grounds, providing essential support services to staff, students, and visitors. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming academic environment, benefiting from a comprehensive pension scheme and a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine checks of buildings and grounds, identifying and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment for events, lectures, and meetings.
  • Manage deliveries and postal services, ensuring timely distribution to appropriate departments.
  • Provide reception and security coverage, including monitoring access points and responding to alarms.
  • Undertake minor repairs and general handyman tasks as required.
  • Assist with the movement of furniture and equipment within university premises.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire safety procedures.
  • Provide a helpful and courteous service to all university staff, students, and visitors.
  • Support emergency procedures and evacuation drills.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good physical fitness for manual handling tasks.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a porter, facilities, or security role, preferably within an academic or large institutional environment.
  • Basic IT literacy for logging incidents and managing simple records.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • First Aid qualification.
