Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete all required training and certifications to become a certified Correctional Officer.
  • Maintain constant supervision of inmates to prevent disturbances, escapes, and prohibited acts.
  • Conduct regular searches of inmates, cells, and common areas for contraband.
  • Enforce institutional rules, regulations, and policies with fairness and consistency.
  • Respond to emergencies, including altercations, medical incidents, and natural disasters.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports on inmate behavior, incidents, and daily activities.
  • Escort inmates within and outside the facility as required.
  • Perform security checks and inspections of facility perimeters, gates, and equipment.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with inmates, visitors, and other staff members.

Required Skills

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check, psychological evaluation, and physical examination.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured and potentially high-stress environment.
  • Physical stamina and agility to respond to emergencies and perform duties that may require physical exertion.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and professionalism.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish).
