Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Radiochemist with a strong focus on nuclear energy to join our advanced research and development team in Cleveland, OH. This pivotal role involves leading and executing complex radiochemical analyses, contributing to critical projects in nuclear fuel cycles, waste management, and isotope production. The successful candidate will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment, utilizing cutting-edge equipment to ensure the safe and efficient handling of radioactive materials. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex radiochemical separations and analyses on various nuclear materials, including fuels, waste forms, and environmental samples.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize new analytical methods for the detection and quantification of radioisotopes.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of specialized radiochemical equipment, such as alpha/beta counters, gamma spectrometers, and liquid scintillation counters.
  • Ensure strict adherence to radiation safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance standards.
  • Interpret analytical data, prepare detailed technical reports, and present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in research and development initiatives aimed at improving nuclear energy processes and addressing industry challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Manage laboratory inventory of reagents, consumables, and radioactive sources.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in a radiochemical laboratory, preferably with a focus on nuclear energy applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in radiochemical separation techniques and radioanalytical methodologies.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting alpha, beta, and gamma spectrometry systems.
  • Thorough understanding of radiation safety principles and regulatory compliance (e.g., NRC, DOE).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hot cell operations or glovebox work with highly radioactive materials.
  • Knowledge of nuclear fuel cycle processes, actinide chemistry, or nuclear waste immobilization.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 quality management systems.
  • Previous experience in project leadership or managing analytical campaigns.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to radiochemistry or nuclear science.
