Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prior Authorization Specialist to join our remote team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for processing prior authorization requests for prescription medications, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines, plan limitations, and regulatory requirements. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while making a significant impact on our members’ health and well-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an analytical mind, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and process prior authorization requests for prescription medications based on established clinical criteria, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate with prescribing physicians, pharmacies, and members to obtain necessary clinical information and provide status updates.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all prior authorization requests and communications in the system.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve complex cases and ensure appropriate medication access.
- Identify and escalate issues related to potential fraud, waste, or abuse to appropriate channels.
- Stay current with changes in medication guidelines, formularies, and regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to all HIPAA and patient confidentiality guidelines.
Required Skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
- Previous experience in a prior authorization role within a PBM, health plan, or pharmacy setting.
- Knowledge of medical necessity criteria and clinical guidelines.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
