Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented National Statistics Data Collector to join our team in Charleston, SC. This role involves a blend of field-based data collection and office-based data entry and verification. You will be instrumental in gathering crucial statistical information that contributes to national research projects, market insights, and public policy decisions. The ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. This is a hybrid role, requiring a significant portion of time spent in the field engaging with the community, balanced with office duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person interviews and surveys with individuals and businesses in designated areas following established protocols.
- Collect, record, and verify data accurately using various methods, including digital devices and paper forms.
- Ensure strict adherence to data collection guidelines, confidentiality policies, and ethical standards.
- Travel within the Charleston area to various field sites to collect data.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with respondents, explaining the purpose of data collection and ensuring cooperation.
- Organize and manage collected data, preparing it for entry and analysis.
- Perform data entry, validation, and quality checks in the office environment.
- Identify and report any issues or discrepancies encountered during data collection to supervisors.
- Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance data collection skills and understanding of project objectives.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and data entry software
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for field work
- Ability to walk, stand, and travel to various locations for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Public Health, or a related field
- Previous experience in data collection, surveying, or field research
- Familiarity with survey software or mobile data collection applications
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus
- Experience working with diverse populations
