Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and highly accurate Sheet Music Editor to join our remote team. This role is crucial for maintaining the exceptional quality and precision that Hal Leonard is known for in our vast catalog of sheet music publications. The ideal candidate will possess an eagle eye for detail, a deep understanding of music notation, and a commitment to delivering flawless musical scores. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while contributing to a globally recognized leader in music publishing.
Key Responsibilities
- Rigorously review and proofread sheet music for errors in notation, dynamics, articulation, text, and layout.
- Verify musical accuracy against original sources, composer intentions, and established editorial guidelines.
- Collaborate with transcribers, engravers, and project managers to ensure consistency and adherence to style guides.
- Implement corrections and revisions using specialized music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius).
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to other team members regarding notation and editorial standards.
- Stay current with music notation best practices, industry standards, and software updates.
Required Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of music theory, harmony, and notation conventions.
- Demonstrated experience in detailed proofreading and editing of sheet music.
- Proficiency with at least one major music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative remote team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Theory, Music Education, or a related field.
- Professional experience as a copy editor or proofreader in a publishing context (music or otherwise).
- Familiarity with various musical genres and instrumental requirements.
- Experience with digital asset management systems.
- Proficiency in additional languages (especially German, French, or Italian) for textual accuracy in scores.
