Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our exceptional team. As an L&D Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to expectant mothers, those in labor, and new mothers and their infants. This role requires a strong clinical background in obstetrics, the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations, and a commitment to patient-centered care. You will play a crucial role in guiding families through one of life’s most significant moments, ensuring safety, comfort, and positive outcomes. This is a full-time position with 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, offering a consistent schedule for work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for laboring and postpartum patients.
- Monitor fetal heart tones and maternal vital signs, interpreting findings and escalating concerns.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, documenting all interventions accurately.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout the birthing process.
- Assist physicians during labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum procedures.
- Recognize and respond effectively to obstetric emergencies.
- Educate new mothers on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to all infection control protocols.
- Complete thorough and accurate electronic health record documentation.
Required Skills
- Current RN license in Virginia or compact state
- BLS and ACLS certification required upon hire
- NRP certification required within 6 months of hire
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and emotionally charged environment
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB)
- Experience with high-risk pregnancies and complex deliveries
