Job Description
Little Rock School District is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Orchestra Teacher to join our esteemed performing arts department. This full-time, on-site position involves leading our high school orchestra program, developing student musical talent, and contributing to the vibrant artistic community of our schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in orchestral music, excellent pedagogical skills, and a commitment to fostering a love of music in young people. You will be responsible for teaching various levels of orchestra, preparing students for performances, competitions, and auditions, and actively participating in school events. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead daily orchestra classes for high school students at various skill levels.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with state and national music education standards.
- Select appropriate repertoire for student performances, considering musicality, technical demands, and student interest.
- Prepare students for concerts, recitals, district festivals, regional competitions, and college auditions.
- Provide individualized and group instruction on instruments, music theory, and performance techniques.
- Manage and maintain orchestra instruments, equipment, and music library.
- Collaborate with other performing arts faculty to coordinate school-wide events and productions.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and performance opportunities.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school-related events.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Orchestral Performance, or a related field.
- Valid Arkansas teaching license with an instrumental music endorsement.
- Demonstrated proficiency in a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass).
- Proven experience conducting high school-level orchestras.
- Strong knowledge of orchestral repertoire, music theory, and pedagogy.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education or Orchestral Conducting.
- Three or more years of successful teaching experience as an orchestra director at the high school level.
- Experience with music technology and digital music resources.
- Active participation in professional music education organizations.
- Experience organizing and leading student trips to musical events or competitions.
